  Even in the remotest times, the miracles news attributed to the Water Fountain Nossa Senhora d’Ajuda attracted many people, so the Jesuits opened its doors to shelter the pilgrims for free. To join these, at the end of the 70’s, the first hippies came (Arembepe’s route) and the Europeans landing here combined their culture and DNA to this warm and dark-colored skin people. The houses of the Church were no longer enough to shelter the newcomers, consequently, from Bahia’s people’s conviviality the first guesthouses arose. Arraial d’Ajuda advances offering more than four thousand accommodations, distributed in over 130 inns and guesthouses. By the way, many of the first guesthouses were candle lit homes, having no drain water. Furthermore, we still keep calling inns the small and charming hotels that offer great service and comfort (swimming pool, sauna, air conditioner, TV, minibar, etc.).

The lush nature, the race and culture mingling generated the tradition of attracting famous celebrities, from the sports and arts world, who already landed here: Jacques Villeneuve, Michael Schumacher, Robert de Niro, Richard Gere, and Jimmy Cliff.  Five km from Porto Seguro, Arraial d’Ajuda district delights everyone by its heavenly beaches and Bahia’s typical warm weather. Besides that, the town’s night
is lively, filled with musical attractions, which may vary from MPB (literally, Brazilian Popular Music) to Blues, including the traditional ‘Capeta’ drink (a local cocktail of guaraná powder).
Arraial d’Ajuda has always been avant garde. Even before ecological tourism was spread, the village was aware of its richness.
Classified by Bahiatursa Tourism Agency as a tourist destination, Arraial keeps on top of it. Notice this: there are more than 3,500 accommodations distributed in hotels and inns, whose architecture is fully integrated with the nature and all the comfort available.
Arraial’s cuisine is really something: tens of excellent restaurants and beach cottages do their best with their seasoning, pleasing just about everybody.
To settle this paradise, where the native soil is so rich, all areas artists settled themselves in Arraial, producing amazing art creations.
